City's Office of the Inspector General Aims for Re-accreditation

February 25, 2025
The City of Tallahassee Office of the Inspector General (OIG) is in the process of earning re-accreditation status through the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA). Being an accredited agency indicates the work products of the OIG's investigative function meets or exceeds the highest professional standards promulgated for Offices of Inspectors General.
CFA accreditation assessments are conducted every three years. A team of assessors from the CFA is scheduled to be in Tallahassee on March 27, 2025, to review all aspects of the OIG's investigative function, including policies, procedures, management, operations and support services.
To achieve re-accreditation status, the OIG must comply with CFA standards. Since the OIG was established by the City Commission on July 8, 2020, and received its initial accreditation from the CFA on June 16, 2022, this will be the first time it is seeking re-accreditation.
The assessment team is composed of assessors from similar agencies. They will review written materials, interview individuals and visit offices and other areas where compliance can be observed. Once assessors complete their review of the OIG, they will report their findings to the CFA, which will then determine if the OIG is to receive re-accredited status.
As part of the re-accreditation assessment by the CFA, the public is invited to offer comments. A copy of the standards manual is available on the CFA website at flaccreditation.org under the Inspectors General standards tab. For more information regarding CFA or for persons wishing to offer public comments about the OIG's ability to meet the standards of accreditation, please send correspondence to CFA, P.O. Box 1489, Tallahassee, Florida, 32302, or email flaccreditation@fdle.state.us.
"CFA Inspector General standards ensure our accountability, not only to our peers but to the public we serve," Inspector General Dennis Sutton said.
