Utility Refunds
What to Expect
Utility refunds are issued only after a recent account closure and when a credit balance remains. If your account is still active, any credit will stay on the account and apply to future bills.
When You’ll Receive a Refund
You may receive a refund if, after your account is closed:
- Your deposit exceeds your final balance
- You’ve made an overpayment
- A billing adjustment results in a credit
How It Works
- Your account is final billed and reviewed
- Any remaining credit is verified
- If eligible, a refund is processed automatically
How You’ll Receive It
Electronic Refund (Preferred):
You’ll receive a notification from the City of Tallahassee (COT) confirming your utility refund is ready. Secure instructions to claim your refund will then be provided through an approved banking partner.
What You Need to Do
- Ensure your email address is current and monitored
- Watch for a secure refund notification
- Follow the instructions to claim your refund promptly
Failure to respond to refund notifications may delay payment.
