City Leads Community in Preparing for 2023 Hurricane Season
PREP Workshops Coming Soon
May 12, 2023
With the 2023 hurricane season just around the corner, June 1 to November 30, the City of Tallahassee is preparing now to weather possible storms and urging residents to do the same. Personal preparedness can enhance safety and ease the recovery process.
To guide residents through planning, the City of Tallahassee will host four free community workshops as part of the City's Plan for Readiness and Emergency Preparedness (PREP) program. Sessions will be held in person from 6-8 p.m. at the following locations. A virtual option will be available for those who cannot attend in person.
- May 15 at Seminole Baptist Church, 3330 Mission Rd.
- June 6 at Envision Credit Union (Downtown), 600 N. Monroe St.
- June 13 at Jake Gaither Community Center, 801 Bragg Dr.
- June 19 at St. Peters Anglican Church, 4784 Thomasville Rd.
Attendees will learn what supplies they should have on hand, steps to protect their homes and resources available that can help them and their neighbors organize before and after a storm.
For more information on participating in the workshops, visit Talgov.com/PREP.
Ensuring that you have access to timely and accurate information during an emergency is an important part of personal preparedness. City utility customers are encouraged to check and update, if needed, the contact information associated with their utility account. The City uses this information to send text and email alerts during disasters. To review and update the contact information associated with your utility account, visit Talgov.com/YOU.
Should a severe weather event occur, the City's mobile app, DigiTally, can be a useful tool in reporting power outages, downed trees and other storm-related issues. The free app can be downloaded from the Apple or Google Play store. A non-mobile version is also available at Talgov.com/DigiTally.
